The Wireline Retrievable Safety Valve (WRSV) is a flapper-type, hydraulically operated safety valve designed for wireline installation. It functions similarly to a tubing retrievable safety valve (TRSV) but requires assembly with a lock mandrel before being installed in a safety valve landing nipple or within a disabled TRSV that has established communication.
This valve is commonly used in dual-string completions, where the annular space is insufficient to accommodate a TRSV. It can also function as a secondary insert valve in a disabled TRSV.
The WRSV features a full metal-to-metal (MTM) primary seal combined with a secondary soft seal, ensuring high-pressure containment under various gas pressure conditions.
A self-equalizing mechanism is incorporated to facilitate pressure balance before opening. When hydraulic pressure actuates the piston, the opening prong moves downward, unseating the secondary MTM seat, which allows the below pressure to equalize through an equalizing port before the valve fully opens.
✅ Larger Flow Through ID Design – Optimized for high flow capacity.
✅ Built-in Self-Equalizing Mechanism – Allows pressure balance before opening, enhancing operational efficiency.
✅ Spherical Metal-to-Metal Seal – Provides superior well containment and long-term sealing performance.
✅ Pump-Through Capability – Allows fluid circulation through the valve when necessary.
✅ Internal Component Protection – Ensures critical components remain isolated and protected in the open position.
✅ Easy Wireline Retrieval – Can be retrieved efficiently via slickline for maintenance or replacement.
✅ Compatible with Lock Mandrels – Works with top no-go or selective lock mandrels for flexible completion setups.
✅ Deep-Set Capability – Equipped with an ultra-strong spring for smooth and reliable closure, even in high-pressure environments.
✅ High-Pressure Rating – Withstands pressures up to 15,000 psi, making it ideal for demanding well conditions
🔹 General Production Completion – Suitable for various production well configurations.
🔹 Dual-String Completion – Used when annular space is too limited for a TRSV.
🔹 Secondary Insert Valve in a Disabled TRSV – Provides redundant safety and well control capability when a TRSV is non-functional.
