The HTDR Hydraulic-Set Dual-String Packer is a retrievable packer designed to isolate the annulus from the production conduit in dual-string completions. It is set by applying pressure to the setting tubing string after dropping a ball into a ball catcher or deploying a plugging device. No tubing movement is required during setting, making it ideal for high-pressure and complex well environments.
The HTDR packer is secured in position by a segmented internal slip system, consisting of an upper hold-down button slip and a lower dovetail slip.
- The upper button slip is actuated by annulus pressure from below, resisting differential pressure, even when both tubing strings are plugged.
- The lower dovetail slip holds the packer against downward forces, ensuring stability.
The packer is retrieved by a straight upward pull on the primary tubing string. The setting and release force can be field-adjusted to match well conditions.
For applications where the HTDR packer is used as an upper packer (with a single-string packer below), a safety joint should be installed below the HTDR packer to allow for sequential release.
